A whole lot was expected from 2020 – apart from the fact that it signified a new decade, it brought the magnitude of hope a new year brings. While we had different thoughts towards the new year, not a lot of people(probably nobody) thought of a worldwide pandemic this massive.

It’s forced a whole lot of countries to be put under complete lockdown and Stay-at-home orders for weeks and in some cases months – Long story short? A gigantic dose of Boredom for everyone.
Killing the boredom that accompanies staying at home for weeks seems to be everyone’s number 1 priority. Movies and books are the popular options but here’s the good news – Music could give you much more.
The Pandemic has affected the music world just as much as every other department on Mother Earth. It may have stopped or postponed Concerts and Tours, but it hasn’t stopped artists from giving us music projects right from the comfort of their homes to help us during these hard times.
We at Album Talks have decided to give you recent albums ideas straight out of 🇳🇬 to help – at least – mitigate the boredom situation. This list isn’t going to be in any specific order seeing as the aim of this article is not about competition(or is it?).
Boo Of The Booless – Chike
Debut projects have really been impressive lately in the country, from Rema’s EP to Fireboy’s ‘Laughter, Tears & Goosebumps‘. Chike’s album was no less, it even got compared to LTG which was one of the best albums of last year. It’s love-theme and vocal content is set to be a calming influence in the thick of the storm.
OXYGENE – Oxlade

Another Debut project case. Oxlade’s voice is soothing, this is a general knowledge. Harnessing the best of that voice and making a project off it is a different challenge, one that boy Oxlade passed with flying colors. The OXYGENE EP was the number one album in the country for weeks and is still buzzing the mainstream. You’d find it hard to get Songs like Away, 02 and KOKOSE off your lips. Find out more about the EP here.
God’s Engineering – AQ
AQ is one of the few rappers that still go very hard with the flows and Hip-Hop generally. God’s Engineering might not have hit the mainstream wildly but was successful in the Hip-Hop Department. There’s time on your hands, so there’s enough time to study the punch lines and let them hit deep 😁
Barry Back – Barry Jhay

Everyone that’s heard songs from Barry Jhay can’t deny the huge amount of talent he’s got. Songs like Aiye, Normal Level and Tomorrow hit the mainstream world hard. His long-anticipated Project, which is an EP, dropped February and it’s hands down one of the most underrated projects out there. The 9-tracked EP has no skips and should be on your Playlist this Quarantine period.
Yellow – Brymo
Brymo’s art is undiluted. He keeps it raw and amazingly relatable. It was no different with his 6th studio album ‘Yellow‘ which is literally the most trending album in the country currently. The Much-anticipated album has got a fusion of traditional and alternative vibes to mix with Brymo’s Therapeutic way of singing. If you liked ‘Oso‘, you definitely should listen to ‘Yellow‘.
999 – Olamide
Overseeing Fireboy’s up-rise to stardom and the YBNL business was his primary duty through out late 2019, but Baddo started the year with an EP for his Loyal fans. He’s the king of Nigeria mainstream as he knows exactly what the people want to vibe to. 999 saw Olamide execute a music style he barely does, Afro-trap. Thankfully it came out good and birthed the hit song, Wonma. You should jump on this EP. Get more information about the EP Here.
Judah the EP – M.I Abaga
Still showing glimpses of why he’s widely regarded as the best rapper in the whole of Africa, Mr Incredible dropped a surprise 8-track EP with a mouth-watering feature list including AQ, Alpha Ojini and more. His reputation precedes him and you just know the ‘Short Black Boy‘ is unable to drop a average/bad album. You’ll enjoy this one.

Warriors – 2Baba
Speaking of another legend in the game with with an honorary reputation, 2baba might be past his prime, but he’s still got that touch of Brilliance that just makes you want to dance to his songs. Songs like Oyi and Amaka proves that the legend has still got it in him. He’s put a lot into this album with features from Wizkid, Burna Boy, Peruzzi, Olamide and more. A proper Afrobeats album you should listen to.
Quarantine Playlist – Teni X DJ Neptune
What better project are there to listen to other than the one that was made specifically to ease your stress this Quarantine period. Teni’s Songs are already sonically pleasing enough without her specially singing for the sole purpose of easing our stress. The EP didn’t disappoint with DJ Neptune adding his spicy bit. A must listen
Underrated – T-Classic
One of the rising stars on the AfroPop scene, T-Classic’s debut body of work brims with the quality that got him nominated at the Headies for Rookie of the year. I agree with T-Classic when he says he’s Underrated, this amazing EP is proof. You shouldn’t sleep on this too, add to your Playlist ASAP.
