A few cult fans were looking forward to Kinsmen the EP by Mystiq but the unique act caught my attention in a one-on-one interview that dropped earlier on this week;
I consider this EP as one that would unveil me more out there, so it’s me beckoning on my people; the ones that are going to accept me as their artist, hopefully their favorite. If Kinsmen doesn’t get you trying to figure out who is behind the music, then to be honest, I think nothing else would.

THAT caught my attention. It was an artist that was so sure about her art in an unapologetic manner. It became my most-anticipated project of the week!
Who really is Mystiq? Ubelejit Egop, known professionally as Mystiq, is a Port Harcourt indigene – Born, bred and raised. She has been in and around the music industry for close to a decade and all the while has been an artist highly specific and intentional about her art direction.
Being in the music industry for close to a decade, Mystiq has seen it all. From dropping at least a single every year for the past 9 years, to submitting a single to Davido’s DMW for vetting, to briefly signing under a record label, to having relations with stars such as Iyanya, Ubi Franklin, Yung6ix, Don Jazzy, Emma Nyra & many more
Track-by-track review of Kinsmen
Gangsta Riddim could be listed as one of the best EP intros of 2022 so far. A personal favorite and a hard-bass hitting dancehall bop. GOOSEBUMPS outdid himself on the production of this one.
Rock-inspired Spark highlights Mystiq’s wide-reach versatility on a whole different level. Followed by Mystiq’s personal favorite Choke, a melodious mid-tempo tune shines a light on Mystiq’s rap side as she continues to outdo herself on this EP. The no-skips extended play closes with the smooth Buckle Up on which Mystiq speaks to her unsurmountable greatness; “I am the boss”.
Kinsmen is an extended Play with everything you would expect from an artist with Mystiq’s type persona. Raw. Different. Expansive. Versatile. An artist hungry to get everything she deserves and get it now.
